SpiceJet Plane Hits Akasa Air Aircraft at Delhi Airport, Both Damaged
Two aircraft were damaged in a ground incident at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday afternoon after a SpiceJet plane collided with an Akasa Air aircraft in the parking area. No injuries were reported, and all passengers and crew members on board both planes are safe. According to a spokesperson of SpiceJet, the airline’s aircraft sustained damage to its right wing, while the Akasa Air plane also suffered damage to one of its wings. The incident occurred within the airport’s parking bay during routine ground movement. Following the collision, the SpiceJet aircraft has been grounded in Delhi and will not be used for further operations until necessary inspections and repairs are completed. Data from Flightradar24 indicated that the incident took place when the SpiceJet aircraft, arriving from Leh, was taxiing towards its designated gate. At the same time, the Akasa Air aircraft was being pushed back in preparation for departure to Hyderabad. In an official statement, Akasa Air said that initial information suggests its aircraft was stationary when it was struck by the other airline’s plane. Due to the incident, flight QP 1406, scheduled to operate from Delhi to Hyderabad, had to return to the parking bay. All passengers and crew were safely deboarded, and the airline’s ground staff is making alternative arrangements to ensure passengers reach Hyderabad at the earliest.
