Punjab Police have registered the first case under the ‘Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026’ following an incident of alleged desecration of Gutka Sahib in Malot town of Muktsar district. The case has been filed against unidentified persons. The incident occurred on Thursday in Ward No. 10 of Indira Basti, where nearly 20 pages of Sri Sukhmani Sahib Gutka Sahib were found scattered on the road. Local residents respectfully collected the pages and informed the police authorities. Deputy Superintendent of Police Harjeet Singh Mann and Station House Officer Harpreet Singh reached the spot and initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the Gutka Sahib may have arrived along with scrap material and was later discarded in the street. A local resident, Jagir Singh, along with his friend, gathered the scattered pages and placed them safely in a gurdwara. Police have registered a case at Malot City Police Station under the new Act as well as relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). DSP Harjeet Singh Mann stated that the area is largely inhabited by scrap collectors, most of whom are migrants, and the police are conducting a detailed investigation. Meanwhile, some local residents have convened a meeting at Gurdwara Bhai Jagta Ji to discuss the matter and decide further steps.
