Floods Wreak Havoc in Pakistan’s Balochistan, Hundreds of Homes Destroyed

At least seven people have lost their lives and four others have been injured following heavy rains and flash floods that caused widespread destruction in Balochistan, according to local media reports on Friday. The floods have severely impacted multiple districts, including Kachhi, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Dera Bugti, Sibi, Harnai, Kohlu, Turbat, Jafarabad, Loralai, and Bolan. The situation has led to significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural land across the region. According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), more than 100 houses have been destroyed, over 50 livestock animals have died, and nearly 400 acres of agricultural land have been submerged. Reports also indicate that around 100 houses were damaged in Harnai and Qila Abdullah, while flooding in Jhal Magsi led to the closure of the Gandawah–Notal road. The fatalities occurred due to multiple incidents across the province. Two people died after being struck by lightning in Loralai and Kachhi, while one person died in Kohlu after a roof collapse. Another fatality was reported in Loralai due to a wall collapse. In Jafarabad, a child drowned, and two individuals were swept away in Kech. Heavy rainfall has also damaged major road networks. Portions of the Harnai–Quetta and Kachhi–Sanjavi national highways were washed away, while several other roads were affected due to continuous downpours. Flash floods were reported in rivers flowing through Harnai and Chaman, further worsening the situation. The PDMA stated that emergency teams are actively conducting rescue and relief operations in coordination with district administrations. Meanwhile, reports indicate that thousands of livestock have been killed, and standing crops, including mustard, wheat, and chickpeas, have been destroyed. Key roads connecting Bolan, Yarokazoi, Notal, Gandawah, and Jhal Magsi have been damaged, isolating several communities and disrupting transportation between Sindh and Balochistan.
