Iran Claims US Targeted Oil Tankers in Gulf of Oman

Iran has accused the United States of violating a ceasefire agreement, claiming that American forces targeted Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman. Following the alleged attacks, Iran warned that it would respond firmly without hesitation. According to Iranian state media outlet Press TV, a spokesperson for the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters stated that US forces targeted an oil tanker traveling toward the Murud Strait from Iranian territorial waters near Jask. The spokesperson further claimed that another vessel entering the strait near Fujairah Port was also attacked. In addition, Iran alleged that airstrikes were carried out on civilian coastal areas in Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island with the support of certain regional countries. However, there has been no independent confirmation regarding casualties or damage resulting from these reported attacks. The allegations come at a time when Iran and the United States are reportedly engaged in discussions over a temporary agreement. According to a report by The New York Times, both countries are considering a proposal to halt military operations for 30 days and reopen the Strait of Hormuz for commercial shipping. The report, citing three senior Iranian officials, described the proposal as a one-page preliminary framework. Under the suggested arrangement, both sides would suspend military actions for 30 days while continuing negotiations toward a permanent agreement. Iranian officials said discussions are ongoing, with both parties exchanging proposals regarding the structure and language of a long-term settlement.
