A newly created social media account named “Dimagi Naxal Party” has attracted more than 1.9 lakh followers on Instagram within a few days of appearing online, bringing the phrase used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Independence Day address into a new political and social media context. Account Returns After Brief Suspension The Instagram account @dimaginaxalpartyy was briefly unavailable on Monday but has since become accessible again. After returning, the account posted an update saying, “We are back.” Before going offline, the account claimed through its Instagram stories that it had been targeted by several cyberattacks. There has been no independent confirmation of the claim. Account Describes Itself as Official The page describes itself as the official account of the “Dimagi Naxal Party” and uses the slogan “Think, Research, Resist.” Its bio lists the founder as “A Dimagi Indian” and the co-founder as “56 Inch Ka.” The account also directs users to an X account identified as @DNJP_India. As of Monday, the Instagram page had 65 posts and was following 35 accounts. Information available on Instagram indicates that the account was created in August. The identity of the person or group operating the account has not been disclosed. Account Follows Several Prominent Personalities The account's following list has also attracted attention because it includes several well-known public figures. It follows comedian Kunal Kamra, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, actor Prakash Raj, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, actor Sonakshi Sinha, comedian Shyam Rangeela, activist Sonam Wangchuk and journalist Ravish Kumar. It also follows the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which recently launched its own social media campaign. Emergence Comes After PM Modi’s ‘Dimagi Naxal’ Remark The emergence of the account comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the term “Dimagi Naxal” during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Saturday. Modi said that armed Naxalism had been driven out of the forests but warned that “Dimagi Naxals” still existed. The Prime Minister said people with a Maoist mindset had established themselves within government corridors and were influencing public policies. He also urged citizens to identify such people and isolate them. P. Chidambaram Responds The Prime Minister’s remarks soon became a subject of political debate. Former Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram responded on X, saying that he was proud to be a “Dimagi Naxal.” He also described the terminology as another version of labels such as “Urban Naxal,” “Andolanjeevi” and “Tukde Tukde Gang” that had been used previously. Kiren Rijiju Offers Clarification Union Minister Kiren Rijiju later clarified that Modi had not described opposition leaders as “Dimagi Naxals.” According to Rijiju, the term referred to people who support Maoists, reject the Constitution, back separatists and demand that the Northeast be separated from the rest of India. Against this backdrop, the rapid growth of an account adopting the same terminology has added another dimension to the political conversation, although there is still no disclosure about who operates the page. CJP Campaign Also in Focus The development comes after the Cockroach Janata Party launched its “Fix the School” campaign, aimed at highlighting the condition of government schools. Both accounts are now visible within an expanding social media space where political labels, satire and public campaigns are increasingly being used to attract attention and build audiences. However, the identity behind the “Dimagi Naxal Party” account remains unknown. The Instagram page, which was briefly unavailable, is now back online and has crossed the 1.9 lakh follower mark.
