Supreme Court Grants Rahul Gandhi Major Relief in Veer Savarkar Remarks Case

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has received major relief from the Supreme Court in connection with remarks made about Veer Savarkar. The apex court has quashed the criminal defamation complaint filed against him, as well as the summons issued by a lower court in the matter. The decision was delivered by a bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Sheel Nagu. The bench held that the case lacked the necessary legal sanction required for initiating the proceedings. During the hearing, the bench noted that both the Additional Solicitor General and the complainant’s counsel referred to an affidavit filed by the Uttar Pradesh government, which did not mention any such sanction. Observing this, the Supreme Court ordered that the complaint and the magistrate’s order be set aside. With this ruling, Rahul Gandhi has received significant legal relief in the criminal defamation case related to his remarks on Veer Savarkar.
