Rajasthan Government Launches Major Action After Deaths at Kota Medical College

The Rajasthan government has initiated major administrative action following reports of the deaths of two women after cesarean deliveries at Kota Medical College and several other patients falling seriously ill. As a precautionary measure, the state’s Drug Control Department has imposed a ban on the use, sale, and distribution of 24 medicines and medical devices across Rajasthan until further orders are issued. The prohibited items include injections, glucose bottles, IV sets, syringes, catheters, and other medical supplies commonly used during surgeries and post-delivery treatment procedures. Ajay Phatak has issued directions to Rajasthan Medical Services Corporation Limited and medicine distributors across the state, instructing them not to use or distribute the medicines and equipment whose samples have been sent for laboratory testing. The department clarified that these medicines and devices will not be used in any government hospital or medical college until the test reports are received. All samples have been sent for laboratory examination, and their supply and usage will remain suspended until the investigation is completed. The controversy emerged after two women reportedly died following cesarean operations at Kota Medical College, while several other patients developed serious health complications. As public concern increased, the medical department ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Preliminary findings have pointed towards possible negligence by doctors and nursing staff, following which disciplinary proceedings were initiated against several officials and employees.
