Air India CEO Campbell Wilson Resigns, Search for Successor Underway

Air India Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson has resigned from his position, according to reports citing sources. The development was reported on Tuesday by news agency ANI. Multiple media reports indicate that the airline has already initiated the process to find a new CEO. Sources suggest that Wilson is likely to step down in September, and his resignation was accepted during a company board meeting held last week. Wilson was appointed as the CEO and Managing Director of Air India in 2022, with a five-year contract set to run until July 2027. According to reports, the airline is expected to appoint a new CEO after the release of the final investigation report into the Ahmedabad aircraft accident. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) had released its preliminary report on July 12, 2025, and the final report is anticipated in June 2026. Air India has not issued any official statement regarding Wilson’s resignation. However, sources indicate that the airline is currently engaged in high-level discussions with potential candidates for the top position. A key meeting in this regard is expected to take place next week. Reports further suggest that the company had initiated its search for a new CEO in January, after Wilson indicated his intention to step down upon completion of his contract. With over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, Wilson has worked with both full-service and low-cost airlines.
