Punjab Congress Leadership in Focus as Speculation Grows Over Raja Warring's Resignation
The ongoing internal differences within the Punjab Congress have taken a fresh turn, with reports suggesting that Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring may step down from his post. According to reports based on an assessment by Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel, former Punjab Chief Minister and Member of Parliament Charanjit Singh Channi, along with MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, are unwilling to contest elections under Raja Warring's leadership. During his recent visit to Punjab, Baghel reportedly held a meeting with leaders associated with the Channi camp, where they expressed their dissatisfaction with Warring's leadership. Sources said leaders from the Channi camp clearly conveyed during the meeting that they were not in favour of Raja Warring continuing as the party's state chief. They also stated that the Congress should not be led by what they described as a "compromised" leader and urged the party's high command to reconsider the leadership issue. Amid these developments, political circles are speculating that Raja Warring could either resign voluntarily in the interest of the party or step down following indications from the Congress high command. However, reports also suggest that the party leadership is not inclined to appoint either Charanjit Singh Channi or Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa as the next Punjab Congress president. The Congress party has not issued any official confirmation regarding the reported developments. Meanwhile, an important meeting between senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is currently underway in New Delhi. The outcome of the meeting is expected to provide greater clarity on the future leadership of the Punjab Congress.
