SAD-BJP Alliance: PM Modi Takes Charge of Alliance Decision, September Announcement Possible
Political discussions over a possible alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) have gained momentum ahead of the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. According to information available, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken charge of the decision-making process concerning the proposed political alliance. While BJP organisational leaders are preparing for all 117 Assembly seats in Punjab, Prime Minister Modi is reportedly leading the discussions regarding a possible alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal. During his Punjab visit, BJP national general secretary B. L. Santosh had spoken about contesting all 117 seats. However, discussions on an alliance are reportedly continuing behind the scenes, with seat-sharing emerging as the main point of disagreement. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh is also closely associated with the political developments surrounding the matter. According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is directly issuing directions regarding the alliance, with only a few senior party leaders said to be aware of the details. The BJP has, for the time being, reportedly not disclosed much about the matter openly to its Punjab leadership. The political developments have also brought attention to Prime Minister Modi’s longstanding relationship with the Badal family. Modi has shared cordial relations with the late Parkash Singh Badal and had publicly touched the former Punjab Chief Minister’s feet. At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is perceived to have had less cordial relations with the Badal family. Although there has been no official confirmation of the reported political initiative, information suggests that the decision regarding an alliance in Punjab is being handled at the level of the Prime Minister. Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal also met Prime Minister Modi recently after a long gap. Discussions surrounding a possible SAD-BJP alliance intensified following that meeting. According to the information, an announcement regarding the alliance could potentially be made in September. In recent days, SAD MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia have also indicated the possibility of an alliance with the BJP. For now, the seat-sharing arrangement remains unresolved, while an official confirmation regarding the alliance is awaited.
