Punjab Cabinet Approves Major Decision on CISF Deployment

Chandigarh : In a major decision, the Punjab Cabinet has officially withdrawn the earlier proposal by the previous Congress government to deploy the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in the state.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that Punjab Police is fully capable of securing key infrastructure and that the deployment of CISF is no longer necessary.

“The Punjab Police has the strength and expertise required to handle all security matters. Therefore, we see no need to bring in CISF,” said CM Mann. He also informed that a special resolution on the matter will be introduced in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to formalize the decision.

The proposed legislation is likely to include strict punishments — including life imprisonment or even the death penalty — for those convicted of sacrilege. However, legal consultations are still underway before finalizing the provisions.

These decisions, Mann added, are aimed at ensuring social harmony and public confidence, particularly among rural communities, women sarpanches, and ordinary families who seek peace, justice, and security in the state.
