Punjab Agricultural University Honoured for Excellence in Acarology Research

Ludhiana (Punjab) : Among nine centres in India, the All India Network Project on Agricultural Acarology of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana Centre has been bestowed with the “Second Best Research Centre Award” by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi.
This award, which has been constituted for the first time since the inception of the Acarology Project, was given for outstanding research contributions made by PAU Centre in Agricultural Acarology.
It was based on the research work and technologies presented during the Annual Group Meeting of the ICAR-AINP, held at Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu from July 3-4, 2025.
The PAU Centre has played a pivotal role in the basic and applied acarological work, giving eco-friendly management strategies for the management of mites on vegetable crops, in addition to monitoring of emerging mite pests in Punjab and adjoining states, and imparting trainings to the farmers.
The Vice-Chancellor of PAU, Dr Satbir Singh Gosal congratulated the Department of Entomology, especially, Acarology team of PAU for being feted with this national level award.
The Director of Research, Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, and the Director of Extension Education, Dr MS Bhullar also congratulated Acarology scientists for this award.
Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar, Principal Acarologist – cum – Head, Department of Entomology, is the Principal Investigator and Dr Paramjit Kaur, Acarologist is the co-PI of this project.
Dr Manmeet Brar Bhullar stated that the award was the result of overwhelming support and mentorship by the University as well as ICAR-AINP on Agricultural Acarology.
