A Russian drone attack targeted a train in Yahodyn, near the Ukraine-Poland border, shortly after former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and several high-ranking European security officials traveled along the same railway route. The strike caused damage to the train's locomotive, but no injuries were reported. Ukrainian officials confirmed that all passengers were safely evacuated prior to the impact. State-owned rail operators noted that the train had departed ahead of its original schedule due to heightened security risks, with evacuation orders issued just 15 minutes before the drone hit. Russian authorities acknowledged targeting "railway infrastructure" in western Ukraine. However, Ukrainian rail officials voiced suspicions that the drone was deliberately aimed at the train used by the high-profile foreign delegation. The site of the attack was located approximately two kilometers from the border with Poland. Former U.S. intelligence chief David Petraeus, who was aboard another train at Yahodyn station during the incident, described the event as frightening. Following the attack, Boris Johnson strongly condemned the strike, stating that Ukrainian civilians face such senseless violence on a daily basis, and urged Western allies to urgently supply additional air defense systems to Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha warned that launching strikes so close to the border demonstrates the escalating threat of Russian aggression right at the threshold of the European Union and NATO. In response to the breach of security near its border, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk convened an emergency meeting to evaluate the situation. With commercial airspace closed across the country, the railway network remains the primary transit mode for millions of Ukrainians and visiting international dignitaries, making it a frequent target for Russian bombardments.
