Grand Nagar Kirtan Organized in Amritsar to Mark First Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib

To mark the historic occasion of the first Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), in collaboration with the local and global Sikh Sangat, organized a solemn Nagar Kirtan from Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib to Sri Harmandir Sahib today. The religious procession commenced following the culmination (bhog) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, Gurbani kirtan, and an ardas (solemn prayer) in the morning. Gurdwara Sri Ramsar Sahib holds deep historical significance as the site where the fifth Sikh master, Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, compiled the holy scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib. In 1604, the sacred scripture was carried in a procession from this site to Sri Harmandir Sahib for its first installation (Parkash). Honoring this century-old tradition, the holy scripture is adorned inside a palanquin (Palki Sahib) every year and taken out in a ceremonial procession along the historical route. Addressing the gathering, Giani Amarjit Singh, Officiating Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, highlighted the rich historical importance of the day and extended warm greetings to the devotees. SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami participated in the event, honoring the Panj Pyare (Five Beloved Ones) and Singh Sahibans leading the procession with Siropas (robes of honor). Dhami also conveyed his heartiest greetings to the global Sikh community on this sacred anniversary. In a video message, Giani Kuldip Singh Gargaj, Officiating Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, extended his greetings to Sikhs worldwide. Reflecting on the sacred history, he called upon humanity to draw guidance from the eternal teachings of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He emphasized that global peace, brotherhood, and mutual affection can be fostered by following the teachings of the holy scripture, urging everyone to work towards the welfare of all (Sarbat Da Bhala). To mark the anniversary, magnificent traditional displays (Jalau) were exhibited at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and Gurdwara Baba Atal Rai Sahib. The entire complex of Sri Harmandir Sahib was exquisitely decorated with intricate floral arrangements. Devotees in large numbers arrived to pay homage, take a holy dip in the amrit sarovar, and seek divine blessings on this pious occasion.
