Robin Uthappa Returns to Mumbai Indians, Set to Mentor Young Batters in IPL 2027

Mumbai Indians have appointed former India batter Robin Uthappa as their batting coach for the 2027 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The franchise announced the appointment on Friday.

Uthappa, 40, was a member of India's squad that won the inaugural ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007. He also has a previous association with Mumbai Indians, having represented the franchise during the inaugural edition of the IPL.

Welcoming Uthappa back to the team, Mumbai Indians shared an announcement on social media platform X, highlighting his experience, understanding of the game and ability to guide young players.

The franchise said his return would bring valuable experience, strong communication skills and the ability to mentor emerging cricketers.

"From being part of our first season to returning with immense experience, Robin joins the team with a deep understanding of the game, excellent communication skills and a clear ability to mentor young players," the franchise said in its post.

The appointment comes amid several changes to Mumbai Indians' coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027.

On Thursday, the franchise parted ways with bowling coaches Lasith Malinga and Paras Mhambrey, along with fielding coach Carl Hopkinson.

Earlier last week, Mumbai Indians promoted their batting coach Kieron Pollard to the position of head coach. Pollard replaced Mahela Jayawardene in the role.

Uthappa's appointment is expected to strengthen the franchise's batting coaching setup, with his international and IPL experience set to be valuable in guiding the team's younger players.
