BJP Announces Major Reshuffle Ahead of 2027 Polls; Smriti Irani Named Haryana In-Charge

The BJP on Wednesday announced a major organisational reshuffle as the party prepares for the upcoming Assembly election cycle. Former Union minister and recently appointed national general secretary Smriti Irani has been named the party’s in-charge for Haryana.
Irani will be assisted by Bhola Singh, who has been appointed as the co-in-charge for the state.
The BJP has appointed Satish Poonia as its in-charge for Punjab. Former Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva and Alka Gurjar have been named co-in-charges for the state.
In Himachal Pradesh, senior Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Shrikant Sharma has been given responsibility as the state in-charge. Mahendra Pandey has been appointed in-charge of Chandigarh.
The party has also assigned responsibilities in several other states. In Maharashtra, Rajya Sabha MP Baijayant Panda has been appointed in-charge, while former BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya and Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat will serve as co-in-charges.
Senior BJP leader Tarun Chugh, another national general secretary, has been given charge of Gujarat. National general secretary Biplab Deb has been appointed in-charge of Madhya Pradesh.
For Delhi, the BJP has assigned senior leader Vinay Sahasrabuddhe as in-charge, with former Ladakh MP Jamyang Namgyal appointed as co-in-charge.
The organisational appointments assume significance as the BJP prepares for states heading towards Assembly elections. The party has assigned Satish Poonia to Punjab, Vinod Tawde to Uttar Pradesh, Bharti Pawar to Goa, Rajdeep Roy to Manipur, Shrikant Sharma to Himachal Pradesh and Tarun Chugh to Gujarat.
The reshuffle is part of the BJP’s wider organisational changes ahead of the upcoming election cycle, with new state-level responsibilities being assigned to several senior leaders and national office-bearers.
