Punjab Police Nab Suspected Spy Accused of Sharing Military Movements with Pakistan
A resident of Punjab’s Pathankot district has been arrested on charges of allegedly spying for Pakistan-based handlers by providing live surveillance footage of army and paramilitary movements, police said. According to the investigation, the accused, identified as Baljit Singh of Chak Dhariwal village, had allegedly installed a CCTV camera at a shop located near a bridge on National Highway-44 (NH-44) to monitor the movement of security forces in the area. Police officials stated that the live feed from the internet-based CCTV camera was allegedly being transmitted to handlers based in Pakistan. During questioning, Baljit Singh reportedly admitted that he had installed the surveillance camera in January at a shop situated along the Pathankot-Jammu stretch of NH-44. Investigators further claimed that the accused was also receiving instructions from an unidentified individual based in Dubai. Police said Baljit Singh had allegedly been paid Rs 40,000 for the activity. Authorities confirmed that the CCTV camera used in the operation has been recovered from the accused’s possession. The latest arrest comes a month after Punjab Police claimed to have uncovered two ISI-backed espionage modules that allegedly used high-tech, Chinese-made solar-powered CCTV cameras to send live feeds of sensitive military installations to Pakistan-based handlers. Police officials said further investigations in the case are currently underway.
