A fire broke out at Sri Ganganagar Railway Station on Saturday, causing panic among passengers and staff. The incident occurred on Platform No. 2, where a 50-kilowatt generator set caught fire during ongoing construction work of a foot overbridge between Platforms 2 and 3. As soon as the fire erupted, chaos spread across the station premises. Railway employees, workers from the private construction company, and passengers present at the site immediately responded to the situation. Fearing the fire might spread further, people began clearing the nearby parking area as a precaution. Upon receiving information about the incident, Deputy Station Superintendent Shankar Lal alerted the fire department. Fire brigade teams reached the spot promptly. By that time, railway staff and workers had already begun efforts to control the flames using fire extinguishers available at the station. Firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control within half an hour. According to the fire department, the incident was caused by a short circuit in the wiring of the generator set. Shankar Lal stated that construction work for the foot overbridge was in progress when the generator caught fire. He added that swift action by railway staff and fire personnel helped contain the situation and prevent a major accident. No casualties have been reported in the incident. However, the generator set was completely destroyed, resulting in financial losses estimated to be in lakhs of rupees. Railway authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.
