Student union elections are being held today, August 31, at Panjab University (PU) and eight recognised colleges in Chandigarh. The voting process will begin at 9:30 AM. After voting concludes, the ballot boxes containing the votes for office-bearer candidates from all departments will be collected from the returning officers after 11 AM and taken to the Gymnasium Hall. The results of the Departmental Representatives (DRs) will also be announced today at 12 noon. Following the announcement, the results will be displayed in the respective departments. Strict security arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and smoothly. A total of 140 university security personnel, along with 450 Chandigarh Police personnel, will be deployed on the campus. Sensitive locations across the campus will remain under camera surveillance. Additional CCTV cameras have also been installed as part of the security arrangements.
