Ganeshotsav celebrations in Mumbai have taken another unique turn with a giant 351-kg sugar-free modak prepared as an offering for Sakinaka Cha Maharaja.
Standing approximately four feet tall, the massive sweet was specially designed to be completely sugar-free and suitable for people with diabetes.
Chef Harsh Kedia, known for creating sugar-conscious festive delicacies, spent more than 20 hours preparing the giant modak. The traditional sweet was given a contemporary touch with a finishing layer of chocolate made from Indian-grown cacao.
Kedia shared the experience on Instagram and described the creation as an “emotional offering”, rather than simply a culinary achievement.
The giant modak was specially crafted for Sakinaka Cha Maharaja, whose Ganpati idol stands more than 42 feet tall. The idol has been recognised as Mumbai’s tallest Ganesh idol this year.
The unusual offering has added another distinctive feature to the city’s Ganeshotsav celebrations, combining traditional devotion with a sugar-free approach to a popular festive sweet.
