07 Nov, 2026 12:22 PM

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is set to take up an academic role at the University of Oxford after accepting an offer from its Blavatnik School of Government.

The university announced the development through the official X account of the Blavatnik School of Government, confirming that Trudeau had accepted its invitation. He will join the institution as an Honorary Fellow and become a member of its prestigious World Leaders Circle.

The international platform brings together former heads of government from different countries who share their political and administrative experiences with students and aspiring leaders. Its members engage with the next generation of policymakers, exchange views on global challenges and contribute to discussions on strengthening governance and developing effective public policies.

Several prominent former world leaders are already associated with the initiative. These include former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Trudeau's association with Oxford marks another chapter in his career, which has included experience in education and national politics.

Born on December 25, 1971, Justin Trudeau is the eldest child of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who served as Canada's prime minister from 1968 to 1984, and Margaret Trudeau.

He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994 and later earned a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Following his studies, he worked as a teacher before entering politics.

Trudeau entered active politics in 2013 when Canada's Liberal Party was going through a difficult period. Following encouragement from party leaders, he stepped into the political arena and was subsequently elected leader of the Liberal Party.

His new association with Oxford University will provide an opportunity to share his political and governance experience with students and emerging leaders from around the world.
