In view of the auspicious Parkash Purab (birth anniversary) of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji, the founder of Amritsar and the fourth Sikh Guru, the holy city has been beautifully adorned with vibrant lights and aromatic fresh flowers. Moving beyond the traditional decorations at Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple), the celebratory displays have expanded across key transit hubs and major public infrastructure throughout the city. A dedicated team of nearly 100 volunteers (sewadars) from the Nishkam Jatha—who daily perform the sacred service of carrying the golden palanquin (Palki Sahib) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji between Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Sri Harmandir Sahib—is carrying out the floral decoration drive. The initiative covers major entry points to the city, including Sri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport, the Amritsar Railway Station, and the central bus terminal. Sawinderpal Singh, a senior volunteer associated with the Palki Sahib service who is leading the floral decoration efforts, shared that 25 to 30 varieties of indigenous and imported exotic flowers are being utilized for the project. These include Anthuriums, African blooms, marigolds, and daisies. At the international airport, key zones including the arrival and departure halls, main entry gates, and immigration counters have been specially decorated. The floral arrangements also feature intricate artistic depictions of Guru Ramdas Ji and miniature models of Sri Harmandir Sahib. According to the organizers, the primary motive behind the grand decorations is to extend a warm and fragrant welcome to devotees and travelers arriving in the holy city for the auspicious occasion. The Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Ramdas Ji holds immense spiritual significance for Amritsar, drawing hundreds of thousands of pilgrims from across India and around the globe. Within the Golden Temple complex, volunteers are illuminating and decorating key areas, including Diwan Hall Manji Sahib, the main sanctum sanctorum, Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and the circumambulatory path (parikrama). In tandem with these efforts, major intersections and commercial markets across Amritsar are being decorated to mark the festive celebrations.
