31 Oct, 2026 05:44 PM

The Delhi High Court has directed the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) to take a decision within two weeks on the show-cause notices issued to wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

Justice Amit Mahajan passed the order on October 29 while hearing Phogat’s petition. The court observed that an athlete must be mentally fit and free from stress to participate in a competition.

The judge clarified that the decision taken on the notices issued on May 9 and June 17 would remain deferred until the next hearing in the matter, scheduled for January 20.

Counsel representing Phogat informed the court that no final order had yet been passed on either of the two show-cause notices.

Emphasising the importance of an athlete’s mental well-being, Justice Mahajan said that every sportsperson should be mentally fit and free from stress before taking part in a competition.
