Chandigarh : BJP state vice-president and former MLA Arvind Khanna has come down heavily on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its failure to ensure 24x7 power supply in Punjab, accusing it of making false promises of free and uninterrupted electricity.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, Khanna said the frequent power outages during peak summer were severely affecting daily life. “While well-off households are managing with generators, the common man is suffering in this heat, and the farming community is paying the highest price during the crucial paddy sowing season,” he said.
He warned that if the situation persists, farmers will be forced to rely on costly diesel-powered pumps to irrigate their fields, pushing them further into financial distress.
Calling out Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Khanna demanded urgent intervention to stabilize the power supply across rural and urban areas.
He also questioned the government’s credibility, saying, “This is the first government to lose public trust within just three years. The AAP came to power with grand promises, but today people are witnessing only mismanagement and excuses.”
The remarks come at a time when Punjab is facing rising electricity demand amid soaring temperatures and increased agricultural activity, especially in paddy-growing regions. Despite claims of surplus power and free electricity schemes, ground reports indicate that many areas are grappling with long hours of load shedding.
Farmers’ unions and residents in multiple districts have also raised concerns in recent weeks, calling for immediate government action before the paddy sowing window narrows.
