Project "AAS" Conducts Drug Awareness Camp at Khuiyan Sarwar

Fazilka : The Fazilka District Administration and Police today organized an anti-drug outreach awareness camp at Khuiyan Sarwar under Project AAS, under the leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and as part of the state's ongoing battle against drug abuse,
Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu and Senior Superintendent of Police Gurmeet Singh were present at the camp as special guests. Also gracing the occasion was Sant Baba Bikhar Singh Ji from Gurdwara Bad Teerath Sahib, Haripura.
Addressing the gathering, DC Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu stated that the objective of the camp was to establish direct communication with drug-affected individuals and motivate them to seek treatment, with the ultimate goal of reintegrating them into the mainstream of society. She emphasized that the government has launched an extensive campaign for drug de-addiction, and such camps aim to eliminate misconceptions among people regarding quitting substance use.
SSP Gurmeet Singh added that while the district police continue their strict crackdown on drug traffickers, efforts are also being made to assist addicts in getting treatment. He informed that free treatment facilities have been arranged through the health department. Importantly, the identity of individuals coming forward for de-addiction is kept strictly confidential, treatment is provided free of cost, and no police inquiry is conducted in such cases.
He appealed to local panchayats to encourage more people to visit de-addiction centres or local OOAT clinics for medical assistance. During the camp, 22 youths expressed their willingness to quit drugs, and the health department team immediately registered them and initiated their treatment.
Sant Baba Bikhar Singh Ji, addressing the attendees, emphasized the need for individuals to remain aware of their social responsibilities and stay away from such societal evils.
Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Eric noted that drug addiction is a mental health issue and can be treated effectively with proper medication. He highlighted that with strong willpower and medical support, recovery is possible. He encouraged affected individuals to reach out to de-addiction centres operating in Abohar and Fazilka or visit their nearest OOAT clinics.
Also present at the event were Abohar SDM Krishna Pal Rajput, DSP Sukhwinder Singh, SHO Maninder Singh, Sarpanch of Khuiyan Sarwar Darshna Rani, social worker Mr. Sushil Kumar Swami, Sarpanch King Pal Singh of Danewala, Sarpanch Niranjan Das of Haripura, Sarpanch Kalu Ram of Sappanwali, along with other dignitaries and local residents.
