Summer Break Announced for Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Courts; Vacation Benches Assigned

The regular functioning of Sessions Courts (District Courts) and subordinate courts across Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh will remain suspended from June 1 to June 30 due to the annual summer vacation. During the vacation period, routine hearings in civil cases will not take place. However, criminal courts will continue their regular proceedings until June 15. From June 16 to June 30, regular hearings in criminal matters will also be suspended, and courts will remain closed except for urgent cases. Providing details about the vacation schedule, Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa said that necessary arrangements have been made to ensure that urgent legal matters continue to be heard during the court recess. She stated that a roster of judicial officers from different courts has been prepared to hear essential matters, including bail applications, stay petitions, and other urgent cases. A detailed schedule has also been issued, specifying the judges who will be available on designated dates to hear emergency matters. The objective of these arrangements is to ensure that litigants do not face inconvenience during the court vacation period and that urgent legal issues receive timely attention. Meanwhile, District Attorney Dinesh Kumar Verma said that the Prosecution Department has also assigned government lawyers to represent the state before vacation courts during the holiday period. These appointments have been made to ensure that important government-related matters are handled efficiently and without interruption throughout the summer recess.
