Ludhiana: Nihang Sikhs Hold Indefinite Road Blockade, Seek Arrest of Murder Accused

Angry over the alleged lack of justice in a three-year-old murder case, Nihang Sikhs on Monday staged a road blockade outside the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office in Ludhiana, bringing traffic on Ferozepur Road to a complete halt in both directions. The protesters gathered around 10 a.m. and sat on a dharna after spreading mats in the middle of the road. With both carriageways blocked, long queues of vehicles formed, causing severe inconvenience to commuters. People heading to the District Courts and the Commissioner of Police (CP) office were also prevented from proceeding, leading to major disruption. Senior police officials remained at the site in an effort to persuade the protesters to end the blockade. Protesters Level Serious Allegations Against Police The protesting Nihang Sikhs alleged that Nihang Fatehveer Singh was brutally murdered in the Lallton area nearly three years ago. They claimed that despite the passage of several years, the police have failed to take any concrete action in the case, and those responsible for the murder are still moving freely. According to the protesters, the continued delay in the investigation has left the victim’s family and supporters deeply disappointed, prompting them to intensify their demand for justice. Decision Taken After Repeated Appeals Leaders of the protest said they had spent a long time approaching senior police and civil administration officials, seeking the arrest of the accused and justice for their slain associate. However, they alleged that they received only repeated assurances without any meaningful action. Frustrated by what they described as the administration’s delaying attitude, the protesters said they were left with no option but to launch the road blockade to draw attention to their demands. Protest to Continue Until Arrests Are Made The Nihang Sikhs at the protest site issued a clear warning that they would not withdraw the blockade until senior police officials provide a written assurance of immediate action and the accused in the murder of Fatehveer Singh are arrested. As of now, the protest remains underway while police officials continue discussions with the demonstrators in an attempt to resolve the situation peacefully.
