Surrey Incident: Car Set on Fire Outside Narendra Singh Randhawa’s Home, Police Launch Probe

A car belonging to Narendra Singh Randhawa, an active Khalistan Referendum campaign leader and associate of slain separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, was set on fire outside his residence in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, late Wednesday night.

During the same incident, a bus associated with "Team Shaheed Nijjar" was also vandalised. The vehicle was reportedly damaged and defaced with spray paint.

Team Shaheed Nijjar is associated with Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was born on October 11, 1977, in Bharsingh Pura village of Punjab's Jalandhar district. He was shot dead in the same area of Surrey on June 18, 2023.

Canadian authorities and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had alleged the involvement of Indian intelligence agencies, along with the network of Punjab gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, in Nijjar's killing.

According to the Surrey Police Service, officers were called to the 14500 block of 91 Avenue at around 11:45 pm after a vehicle was found fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters were at the scene working to extinguish the blaze.

Investigators believe the suspect fled the location on foot. Police said the motive behind the incident has not yet been established.

Authorities have appealed to residents in the area to provide CCTV footage recorded between 11 pm and midnight, which could assist in identifying the suspect. Major Crime investigators are handling the case.

The incident took place just a few hours after a pro-Khalistan rally was held in the area. Randhawa is known for organising such rallies.

According to Canadian media reports, Randhawa was issued a "Duty to Warn" notice in April, informing him of a serious threat to his life. Police issue such warnings when they have credible information indicating that an individual's life may be in danger.

The investigation into the vehicle fire and the vandalism of the bus is ongoing.
