International Olympic Day Event to Be Held at Chandigarh Hockey Stadium

A special ceremony to mark International Olympic Day will be held today at the Hockey Stadium in Sector 42, Chandigarh. Haryana Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh will attend the event as the chief guest. International Olympic Day is observed every year on June 23 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games. Hockey Chandigarh President Karan Gilhotra recently met Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh and formally invited him to attend the celebration as the chief guest. During the meeting, he also briefed the Governor about the ongoing hockey championship and the preparations for the Olympic Day event. Governor Ashim Kumar Ghosh accepted the invitation and extended his best wishes for the programme. He emphasized the importance of encouraging young people to participate in sports and said that such initiatives provide athletes with valuable opportunities for growth and development. Senior Hockey Championship Concludes Today Karan Gilhotra said that Hockey Chandigarh is organizing the Chandigarh Senior Men's and Women's Hockey Championship 2026 from June 17 to June 23 under the guidelines of Hockey India. The tournament will conclude on June 23 with the final matches followed by a felicitation ceremony. Promoting Olympic Values Among Youth Gilhotra stated that the objective of International Olympic Day is to inspire young people to take part in sports while promoting Olympic values such as excellence, friendship, and respect. During the ceremony, Olympians, international athletes, technical officials, umpires, and dedicated members of Hockey Chandigarh will be honoured in recognition of their valuable contributions to the sport.
