The body of a Punjab Excise Department inspector was discovered inside a car parked along a highway in Haryana’s Sirsa district, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. According to officials, the vehicle was found stationed on the roadside near Dabwali along the Amritsar-Jamnagar Bharatmala road. Upon receiving information, the Dabwali police rushed to the spot and began preliminary inquiries. The family of the deceased was informed based on details retrieved from his mobile phone and identification card. The deceased has been identified as Karamjit Singh (45), a resident of Cheema village in Ludhiana. He was currently posted as an inspector in the Excise Department in Moga. Passersby reportedly noticed the car parked near Kalanwali bridge around midnight on Friday and alerted the authorities. During the inspection, police found the body of the inspector lodged between the front seats of the car. He was wearing a seat belt, and a government-issued pistol was found lying beside him. Following the arrival of family members, the body was sent to the Civil Hospital in Dabwali for a postmortem examination. The police have taken the body into custody and seized the pistol as part of the investigation. Efforts are ongoing to determine how the inspector reached the location, with call detail records and other evidence being examined. Authorities are also collecting information from the concerned department. Meanwhile, the family has expressed suspicion regarding the circumstances of his presence in Dabwali. They pointed out that the distance between Moga and Dabwali is approximately 200 kilometres, making it unlikely that he would have travelled there alone without informing anyone. Police officials stated that the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the postmortem report is received. The investigation is currently in progress.
