IndiGo Resumes Amritsar-Kolkata Connectivity, Direct Flights to Run on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays

Air connectivity between Punjab and West Bengal is set to improve as IndiGo will launch a direct flight between Sri Guru Ram Das Ji International Airport in Amritsar and Kolkata from October 1. The service will operate three days a week, providing passengers with a direct travel option between the two cities.
The new service will also provide air connectivity between Amritsar and Guwahati via Kolkata. The development is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Punjab, West Bengal and the northeastern region.
Sammep Singh Gumtala, global convenor of the Fly Amritsar Initiative, and Yogesh Kamra, India convenor of the initiative and general secretary of the Amritsar Vikas Manch, welcomed IndiGo's restoration of the route. They said the service would benefit passengers travelling between Punjab, West Bengal and the northeastern states.
Flight schedule
According to the current schedule, IndiGo flight 6E 201 from Kolkata to Amritsar will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The flight will depart Kolkata at 9:45 am and arrive in Amritsar at 12:25 pm.
The return flight, 6E 6344, will depart Amritsar at 1:05 pm and reach Kolkata at 3:35 pm. This will provide a direct journey of around two and a half hours between the two cities.
Flight 6E 201 will also connect Guwahati with Amritsar via Kolkata. It will depart Guwahati at 7:50 am, reach Kolkata at 9:05 am, and then depart for Amritsar at 9:45 am.
On the return journey, flight 6E 6344 will arrive in Kolkata from Amritsar at 3:35 pm and depart for Guwahati at 4:15 pm, reaching the northeastern city at 5:30 pm.
The routing will allow passengers travelling between Punjab and Assam to connect through Kolkata on the same flight, reducing the need to change aircraft at Delhi or other airports and avoiding long waiting periods.
Service expected to benefit pilgrims, traders and tourists
According to the representatives, the direct connectivity is expected to be particularly useful for Punjabi and Sikh communities living in West Bengal and Assam, devotees travelling to Sri Darbar Sahib, tourists, families, students and business travellers.
Kolkata is one of India's major commercial and cultural centres. The new flights are also expected to make it easier for tourists from eastern and northeastern India to travel to Amritsar and other parts of Punjab.
Kamra said the Amritsar-Kolkata service had originally started on December 1, 2019. Both representatives appealed to passengers from Punjab, West Bengal and Assam to make greater use of the restored service.
They said continued passenger support for the route could provide a strong foundation for strengthening the service and increasing the frequency of flights in the future.
