Rohtak PGIMS Among Seven Institutions Penalised by NMC Over Stipend Transparency
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken strict action against seven medical colleges across the country, imposing a penalty of ₹1 crore on each institution. Among the penalised institutions is the well-known Pandit Bhagwat Dayal Sharma Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak. The action was taken for failing to publish details of the stipend provided to MBBS interns and postgraduate resident doctors on their official websites. According to the commission, the disclosure of stipend information is necessary to ensure transparency and uniformity in payments made to medical trainees. As per a notice issued by the NMC’s Undergraduate Medical Education Board, apart from the Rohtak institute, one medical college each in Karnataka, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh has also been fined the same amount. The commission had earlier issued instructions in July 2025 directing all institutions to publicly disclose stipend details on their websites to maintain transparency in payments. However, despite repeated reminders, the concerned colleges failed to comply with these directives. The NMC has also warned that if such violations continue in the future, stricter measures may be taken, including a ban on admissions or cancellation of recognition of the institutions. Meanwhile, the Director of PGIMS Rohtak, S. K. Singhal, stated that he has seen the order on the website but has not yet received any official communication regarding the matter. He added that the institution follows all rules and the reasons behind the action are currently being examined.
