Major Accident in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh: 9 Killed After Car Swept Away in Drain

A major accident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district amid heavy rainfall after an Eco car carrying passengers was swept away by the strong current of the Jhiri drain near Padana. Nine people were killed in the accident, while two passengers were rescued safely. Due to the heavy rain, water was flowing over the bridge across the drain. The driver could not clearly see the incomplete portion of the bridge, causing the van to be swept into the drain. A total of 11 people from the Satwas area of Dewas district were travelling in the car. Following the accident, panic and chaos broke out at the spot. The administration, along with local villagers, immediately launched relief and rescue operations. So far, the bodies of nine people have been recovered, while two passengers have been safely rescued. According to the information available, the affected family was travelling from Satwas in Dewas district to Kadlawad in Sarangpur. The car coming from Dewas was travelling through a newly constructed bypass. A large amount of rainwater had accumulated on the bridge there. As the driver was from outside the area, he could not properly assess the water level and the actual condition of the bridge. Local residents also tried to stop the driver from proceeding further. Despite this, the driver took the risk of moving the vehicle ahead, following which the car became unstable and was swept away by the water. Soon after receiving information about the incident, an SDRF team reached the spot. Rescue operations were carried out with the help of a rescue boat and ropes. Elderly people, women and children were safely brought out during the operation. Arrangements for food, drinking water and medicines have been made at relief camps. The administration has appealed to people to avoid going near rivers and drains during heavy rainfall and to stay at safe, elevated locations.
