Punjab Police Sub-Inspector Arrested for Taking ₹50,000 Bribe

A Sub-Inspector of the Punjab Police has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹50,000. The arrest was made by the Punjab State Vigilance Bureau following a complaint filed by a resident of Bathinda district. According to an official spokesperson, the accused, identified as Meva Singh, was posted in the cyber cell at Sangrur. The complainant, a resident of village Kothe Maha Singh Wala in Bathinda, had approached the Vigilance Bureau alleging that the officer demanded money in exchange for removing his wife’s name from a registered case. As per the complaint, a case had been registered against the complainant and his wife at the cyber cell of Sangrur police station, where Meva Singh was serving as the investigating officer. The complainant alleged that the Sub-Inspector demanded ₹50,000 to discharge his wife from the case. Following the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau conducted a preliminary inquiry and laid a trap. The accused officer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of two official witnesses. Officials further stated that a case has been registered against Meva Singh under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and further investigation is underway.
