McCallum has also been associated with efforts to establish a local police force in Surrey. Responding to demands from Surrey residents, he initiated the move to replace the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) with the Surrey Police Service.

The initiative faced several challenges, which McCallum had to address during the process. His latest election victory marks his return to the mayor’s office after previously serving the city in two separate periods.
