In a significant development, the head of the US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), Joseph Kent, has resigned from his position in protest against the ongoing war with Iran. Kent stated that he could not support the conflict, asserting that it was not initiated for the right reasons. In his resignation, Kent raised serious concerns over the justification of the war, alleging that Donald Trump was pursuing the conflict under pressure from Israel. He emphasized that Iran did not pose any immediate threat to the United States, and therefore, military action was unnecessary under the circumstances. Describing his decision as one made against his conscience, Kent said he could not continue in his role while supporting a war he fundamentally disagreed with. His resignation letter underscored his ethical concerns and opposition to the rationale behind the ongoing conflict. In his letter addressed to President Trump, Kent wrote that after deep reflection, he had decided to step down as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center with immediate effect. He reiterated that he could not, in good conscience, support the war in Iran, maintaining that there was no imminent threat to the United States. Kent further stated that it was evident the conflict had been initiated under pressure from Israel and its influential supporters within the United States. He added that while he continued to support the values and foreign policy approaches that Trump had advocated during his earlier election campaigns and first term, he could not align himself with the current course of action regarding Iran.
