Three COVID-19 Patients Admitted to Private Hospital in Kolkata, Doctors Urge Vigilance

Three people infected with COVID-19 have been admitted to a private hospital in Kolkata, adding to recent concerns over a rise in coronavirus cases. Earlier, a 10-year-old boy had also been admitted to another private hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. With these admissions, a total of four patients are currently undergoing treatment for the infection at private hospitals in the city. Dr. Subhajit Sen, Consultant Pulmonologist and Critical Care Specialist at the private hospital, said that healthcare professionals are witnessing an increase in seasonal viral infections, particularly influenza and COVID-19. “We are currently treating three patients infected with SARS-CoV-2. One patient has recovered and is being discharged, while two others required admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to low oxygen levels. Both have responded well to treatment and are now in stable condition,” Dr. Sen said. According to the doctor, the current pattern of COVID-19 infections resembles the Omicron wave, with most patients experiencing mild upper respiratory symptoms such as fever, sore throat, cough, and body aches. However, elderly individuals and those with underlying medical conditions remain at a higher risk of developing severe illness. Dr. Sen advised the public not to panic, noting that most patients recover with timely medical care. He urged people to continue following basic preventive measures, including wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hand hygiene, avoiding unnecessary gatherings during periods of increased viral transmission, and seeking medical attention promptly if symptoms worsen. On July 18, a 10-year-old boy from the Garia area in south Kolkata was admitted to another private hospital after developing fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. Doctors conducted a swab test based on clinical suspicion, and the result confirmed COVID-19 infection. He was subsequently shifted to the ICU isolation unit for treatment. Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have also been reported from other parts of the country. In Andhra Pradesh, 12 COVID-19 cases were reported between June 26 and July 16. During the same period, four patients with co-existing medical conditions died. Pune has also recorded a fresh rise in COVID-19 infections after nearly three years, with new cases identified over the past 10 days. Doctors there have stated that most patients are experiencing mild symptoms but have advised continued caution.
