The incident took place on Tuesday morning during the seva of changing the chola (covering) of the Nishan Sahib. According to eyewitnesses, Maninder Singh had climbed to a height of approximately 60 feet using a crane to offer the new chola to the Nishan Sahib. He had successfully completed the service when suddenly the iron cable of the crane snapped. As a result, he fell directly to the ground from a significant height. Following the incident, devotees and volunteers present at the site immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital in a critical condition. However, he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Doctors later declared him dead. The victim’s brother, Gurpreet Singh, stated that Maninder had been devotedly performing this service for over a decade, participating every Sangrand and Baisakhi with great श्रद्धा. He added that the family never imagined that the seva he undertook that day would become his last. Maninder Singh is survived by his wife and a 10-year-old son.
