Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan: Ludhiana Athletes Continue Podium Battle on Day 5
Competition intensified on Friday as players continued their fight for top honours on the fifth day of the district-level events under Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan in Ludhiana.
A number of sporting disciplines witnessed strong participation and closely fought contests, with athletes competing for podium places across different age groups.
Fencers put up strong performances
The fencing competitions at Touch Fencing Club on Dugri-Dhandra Road produced several notable results in the girls’ categories.
in the Under-14 epee event, Jatinder Kaur Sekhon secured the top position, while Sonia finished second and Lavneesh third. Jasleen Ahele won the foil event, followed by Jasnoor Kaur in second place. Sabvi and Tanvir Kaur shared third place.
In the sabre event, Dilman finished first, while Abhinoor Kaur took second. Sukhpreet Kaur and Amand Insa jointly secured third place.
The Under-17 girls’ fencing events also witnessed strong competition. Ekam Kaur won the epee event, with Ragini finishing second and Tarleen Kaur and Aishmeen Kaur sharing third place.
Jasmeet Kaur topped the foil event, followed by Soraya in second. Shreya and Khushi jointly finished third. In sabre, Lipakshi Sharma secured first place, while Manpreet Kaur finished second and Khushipreet Kaur and Rasleen Kaur shared third place.
Powerlifting produces medal winners
At AS Modern Senior Secondary School, Khanna, the Under-17 girls’ powerlifting competition saw Navjot Kaur win the 43-kg category. Harpreet Kaur and Simranjit Kaur finished second and third, respectively.
In the 47-kg category, Srishti won gold, Neha took silver and Samaira secured bronze. Jasmeen Kaur won the 57-kg category, with Srishti finishing second and Niyati third.
Vandana topped the 63-kg category, while Anshu secured the second position.
Volleyball sees strong performances
The Under-17 boys’ volleyball shooting finals at SCD Government College saw Basian Bet emerge victorious, with Chak Kalan finishing runners-up.
In the Under-21 men’s category, Bhaini Sahib secured first place, followed by Dehlon in second and Sohian in third.
Basian Bet continued its strong showing in the 21-30 years category, finishing first. GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, secured second place, while Pind Gill finished third.
Basian Bet also won the 31-40 years category, followed by Raiyan.
Handball and kabaddi competitions draw attention
The handball finals held at Government Senior Secondary Smart School, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), saw Jawaddi Club win the Under-14 boys’ title. BVM School, Udham Singh Nagar, finished second, while Government Senior Secondary School, Gobind Nagar, secured third place.
PAU Club emerged victorious in both the Under-17 and Under-21 categories. The PAU campus team also secured podium finishes.
The circle-style kabaddi competitions also witnessed intense contests.
In the Under-14 girls’ category, Ludhiana-IA finished first, followed by Ludhiana-IB in second and Doraha in third. The Under-17 title went to the Municipal Corporation team, while Ludhiana-I and Khanna finished second and third, respectively.
Jagraon topped the Under-21 girls’ category, with Doraha finishing second and Ludhiana-I third.
In the boys’ events, Ludhiana-II won the Under-14 and Under-17 circle-style kabaddi titles. Jagraon emerged victorious in the Under-21 category, while Raikot and Ludhiana-I finished runners-up in the Under-17 and Under-21 sections, respectively.
Boxing contests produce promising performances
The boxing competitions at Sher-e-Punjab Sports and Welfare Club in Chak village also saw several promising performances.
In the Under-14 boys’ 30-33 kg category, Inderpreet Singh secured first place, followed by Hithan in second and Zorawar Singh in third.
Neeraj Kumar won the 37-40 kg category, while Gurnoor Singh and Lovdeep Singh finished second and third, respectively.
Ripanjot Singh topped the 40-43 kg category. Karamjot Singh secured second place and Harfeteh Singh finished third.
With several disciplines still producing close contests, more action is expected as Ludhiana’s young athletes continue their pursuit of podium finishes in the district-level Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan competitions.
