Punjab Government to Hold Key Meeting with Arhtiya Association Amid Ongoing Strike

The Punjab government is set to hold an important meeting with the Arhtiya Association today at 11:00 AM at Kisan Bhawan in Chandigarh. The meeting is expected to focus on key issues and demands raised by commission agents (arhtiyas), with the possibility of arriving at a resolution. The development comes at a time when arhtiyas across the state are on strike. The Federation of Arhtiya Associations has announced a boycott of wheat procurement. Association President Harbans Singh Rosha and General Secretary Yadvinder Singh Libra have stated that the strike will continue until the Punjab government announces the pending 2.5 percent commission for arhtiyas. Following the ongoing standoff, the government has initiated dialogue by scheduling today’s meeting with representatives of the association. The outcome of these discussions is expected to be crucial for restoring normalcy in procurement operations. The wheat procurement season in Punjab officially began on April 1, 2026. As the month progresses, the arrival of crops in mandis across the state has increased. However, due to the ongoing strike by arhtiyas, procurement activities in several mandis are being affected. The association has reiterated that the boycott of wheat procurement will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
