Canadian Court Convicts Three Punjabi Men in Elderly Couple Murder Case

A Canadian court has convicted three Indian-origin men of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of an elderly couple in Abbotsford. According to CBC News, Arnold de Jong and Joanne de Jong were found dead inside their home in May 2022. On Friday, Brenda Brown of the British Columbia Supreme Court ruled that Gurkarn Singh, Abhijit Singh and Khushveer Toor played key roles in the murders. The court was informed that the killings were carried out for financial gain. All three men worked for a cleaning company owned by Abhijit Singh, which had previously provided cleaning services at the victims’ residence. Prosecutors stated that the accused had jointly planned to rob and kill the couple. During the incident, credit cards, cheques and other valuables were allegedly stolen from the house. Evidence recovered from the crime scene, including DNA samples, rope and a baseball bat, helped investigators establish the involvement of the accused. In addition, investigators found internet searches on Abhijit Singh’s phone related to punishments given to murder convicts in Canada. The court is scheduled to pronounce the sentence for all three convicts on May 28.
