Supreme Court Collegium Clears Names of Seven Lawyers for Judgeship

The strength of judges at the Punjab and Haryana High Court is set to increase following a significant decision regarding judicial appointments. The Supreme Court Collegium has approved a proposal to appoint seven lawyers as judges of the High Court. According to the collegium’s recommendation, the lawyers cleared for elevation include Monica Chhibber Sharma, Harmeet Singh Deol, Pooja Chopra, Sunish Bindlish, Navdeep Singh, Divya Sharma, and Ravinder Malik. It is understood that these names had been under consideration in the judicial appointment process for a considerable period. Following the collegium’s approval, the proposal will now be forwarded to the central government. The appointments will be formalized only after receiving official clearance from the government and approval from the President of India. This move is expected to strengthen the functioning of the High Court and help in addressing pending cases more efficiently.
