Trump Issues Stark Warning as Iran Fails to Meet Strait of Hormuz Deadline
The deadline set by the United States for Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz expired on Tuesday, intensifying tensions in the region. US President Donald Trump had given Iran time until Tuesday to restore access to the waterway, a key global oil transit route. The deadline has now lapsed without confirmation of compliance, raising concerns over potential escalation. Earlier, Trump had issued a strong warning, stating that failure to reopen the strait would lead to targeted attacks on Iran’s critical infrastructure, including power plants, bridges, and other key facilities. Speaking to the media on Monday night, he said the United States had a comprehensive plan in place. “Our plan is ready. Every bridge in Iran could be destroyed by midnight Tuesday. Every power plant would be rendered inoperable and unusable permanently,” Trump stated. He further emphasized the speed at which such operations could be executed, adding that the actions could be completed within four hours if required. However, he noted that the United States does not intend to take such measures unless necessary. “We do not want this to happen, but the entire country could be devastated overnight,” he added, urging Iran to make a decision. Trump also indicated that the conflict could end swiftly if Iran agrees to US conditions. He had set the final deadline for Tuesday at 8 PM US time, which corresponds to 5:30 AM Wednesday (IST). The situation remains tense as global attention focuses on Iran’s next move and the potential implications for regional stability and international energy supplies.
