Honda has launched the much-anticipated CB500 in India, with prices starting at Rs 2.75 lakh. The motorcycle was among several models showcased by the company in July as part of its broader product strategy for the Indian market and quickly became one of the most anticipated launches among enthusiasts.
The CB500 introduces a large air-cooled single-cylinder engine configuration that has been largely absent from the Indian motorcycle market in recent years. The new model is powered by a 501cc single-cylinder air- and oil-cooled engine that produces 28hp and 43.3Nm of torque. Honda says it is the largest air-cooled single-cylinder motorcycle currently offered by the company in India.
Available in Three Variants
Honda will offer the CB500 in three variants. The entry-level Alloy variant is priced at Rs 2.75 lakh. Above it sits the Spoke variant, which features cross-spoke tubeless rims and is priced at Rs 3 lakh.
The top-spec variant is priced at Rs 3.02 lakh and builds on the spoke-wheel version by adding exclusive colour schemes and graphics options.
Across all variants, the CB500 comes equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), a slipper clutch, an analogue-digital instrument console and Honda RoadSync connectivity.
Designed to Fill a Market Gap
The launch of the CB500 places Honda in a segment that has seen limited options since Royal Enfield discontinued its 500cc UCE motorcycle range in 2020. The motorcycle is positioned between smaller-capacity models and larger twin-cylinder offerings, providing buyers with another option in the mid-capacity segment.
Manufacturing the CB500 in India has helped Honda maintain competitive pricing despite the 40 percent GST applicable to motorcycles with engines larger than 350cc.
The CB500 is also positioned below the Royal Enfield 650 twins, which start at Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Chennai), giving it a distinct place in the market for riders seeking a large-capacity single-cylinder motorcycle.
