With an eye on the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its political activities in the state. The party has decided to put its full strength behind its campaign in the border state and has deputed BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh to Punjab with what he described as a special message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “After winning Bengal, now we will win Punjab.” On Tuesday morning, Tarun Chugh held a street-corner interaction in Amritsar with hundreds of party workers and local residents. Photographs shared by the BJP national headquarters showed the Amritsar-born leader personally preparing and serving tea to party workers during the event. Speaking during the programme, Chugh said the party used the “Chai Pe Charcha” platform to convey Prime Minister Modi’s message directly to the people. The venue chosen for the event held both personal and political significance for Chugh. The programme was organised at one of Amritsar’s oldest tea stalls, where sweets were also distributed to celebrate the BJP’s recent electoral successes. Recalling his early political journey, Chugh said that nearly 40 years ago he began his social and political life through student politics at DAV College canteen and the Central Assembly while spending time at the same tea stall. He added that the party was now launching a movement for “complete transformation” in Punjab from the very same place. During the interaction, the BJP leader sharply criticised the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab. He described the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as a “failed and arrogant government.” Chugh alleged that the state was witnessing an unchecked drug menace and large-scale misuse of public resources under the current administration. He further claimed that the AAP government had failed to fulfil its election promises related to free electricity, eradication of drugs, and restoration of law and order. According to Chugh, the guarantees made by the ruling party had proven to be hollow. The BJP leader also asserted that a wave of political change was building in Punjab and claimed that the party would repeat in Punjab what it had achieved in states such as West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry. He said the momentum generated by BJP’s successes in eastern and southern regions of the country would help the party secure major victories in upcoming elections in Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Goa. Concluding his address, Chugh said the people of Punjab wanted a state where farmers receive fair prices for their crops, youth get employment opportunities, and citizens are assured of security. He described the “Chai Pe Charcha” initiative as the beginning of a larger public movement aimed at removing the current government and putting Punjab back on the path of economic progress.
