'Chalo Delhi' March: Thousands Gather at Barakhamba Road as INDIA Bloc Protests Alleged Vote Tampering

Political tension has gripped the national capital as thousands of workers and supporters from the Congress party and the broader 'INDIA' opposition bloc gathered at Barakhamba Road on Monday for a massive 'Chalo Delhi – March for Democracy' towards the Supreme Court. The demonstration has been organized to protest against alleged vote tampering and the conduct of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Despite heavy police deployment and stringent security measures across central Delhi, large crowds of demonstrators continue to hold ground. Prior to the march, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a scathing attack on the central government during a press briefing. He alleged that the government has transformed the capital into a virtual prison and fortress out of fear of the growing public agitation against the Chief Election Commissioner. Questioning the deployment of tens of thousands of security personnel and the disruption of public buses and trains, Gandhi asserted that the opposition wants citizens to witness the extent to which Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration is going to shield CEC Gyanesh Kumar. In tandem with the political showdown, local authorities have implemented sweeping administrative restrictions. The Delhi Police Commissioner officially de-notified Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site, directing future demonstrations to alternative locations such as Ramlila Maidan, Burari Ground, and the CBD Ground. Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) temporarily closed entry and exit gates at six major stations—including Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel House, Mandi House, Janpath, and Barakhamba Road—though interchange facilities remained functional. Traffic movement across central and New Delhi has also faced severe diversions, prompting traffic police advisories for commuters.
