Modi said India was establishing itself not only as a strong sporting nation but also as a reliable and hospitable host for major international sporting events.
“India is presenting itself as a reliable and welcoming country for international sporting events. We are putting forward our bid to host the 2036 Olympic Games, and it is our resolve to host these Games,” the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also posed for photographs with the medal winners. During the meeting, athletes presented him with signed jerseys as gifts. Seventeen-year-old recurve archer Kumkum Mohod also presented him with a bow and arrow.
Senior officials from the athletes’ respective sports organisations accompanied the delegation. Those present included International Cricket Council Chairman Jay Shah and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha.
Addressing the medal winners, Modi congratulated them on their achievements and said they had made 1.4 billion Indians proud.
“You have made 140 crore Indians proud. The greatest achievement is seeing the Tricolour fly high. That is why your success does not belong to you alone; it belongs to millions of our fellow citizens. I congratulate you on behalf of the entire country,” he said.
The meeting highlighted India’s sporting achievements and its ambition to establish itself as a trusted host for major international competitions, with the 2036 Olympics remaining a key goal.
