Pakistan Government Lowers Petrol Price, Diesel Rates Remain Unchanged
The Pakistan government has reduced petrol prices following strong public backlash over a recent sharp increase. Earlier, petrol prices had risen by ₹137 per litre, pushing the cost up to ₹520.41 per litre, which triggered widespread dissatisfaction and protests among citizens. In response to the growing public anger, the government decided to roll back part of the hike and reduced petrol prices by ₹80 per litre. As a result, the new petrol price now stands at ₹378.41 per litre. The move is seen as an attempt to ease public discontent and provide some relief to consumers. However, it is important to note that along with the petrol price hike, the government had also increased the price of high-speed diesel (HSD). Diesel prices were raised by ₹184.49 per litre, taking the cost to ₹520.35 per litre. Despite the protests, no reduction has been announced in diesel prices so far. While the cut in petrol prices has brought partial relief, the continued high cost of diesel remains a concern, as the government has not revised the increase in diesel rates.
