Lovlina Borgohain and Nikhat Zareen to Lead India at Asian Boxing Championship in Mongolia

Olympic medalist Lovlina Borgohain and two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen will captain the 20-member Indian boxing team at the Asian Boxing Championship scheduled to be held in Mongolia from March 28 to April 11. According to the selection policy, boxers who reach the finals of the Asian Championship will be considered for upcoming Commonwealth Games and Asian Games representation. In the women’s category, Lovlina, who recently won a gold medal at the Boxing Elite Championship in Spain in the 75 kg category, will lead the team. Alongside her, other gold medalists from Spain including Preeti (54 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), and Priya (60 kg) have been included. Current world champion Meenakshi (48 kg) and Jasmin (57 kg) are also part of the squad. The team further includes World Boxing Cup gold medalist Nikhat Zareen (51 kg), Ankushita Boro (65 kg), Pooja Rani (80 kg), and Alfiya Taranum Akram Khan Pathan (above 80 kg) in the women’s category. In the men’s category, Sachin (60 kg), who recently won gold at the Boxing World Cup final and the Boxing Elite Championship, will lead the male contingent. Aakash (75 kg), also a gold medalist from Spain, is included alongside silver medalists Deepak (70 kg) and Ankush (80 kg). Additionally, Jadumani Singh Mandengbam (55 kg), who secured silver at the World Boxing Cup final, is part of the squad. The strong and diverse lineup underscores India’s ambition to perform at the highest level in the Asian Championship and serves as a key step toward larger international tournaments later this year.
