PRTC and PUNBUS Employees Call Off Strike, Government Bus Services Resume in Punjab

Commuters across Punjab have received major relief as employees of the Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation (PRTC) and PUNBUS have called off their strike, leading to the resumption of government bus services across the state. During the strike, more than 2,200 government buses remained off the roads, disrupting nearly 1,000 to 1,100 bus routes and affecting thousands of passengers. With the strike now withdrawn, normal bus operations have resumed. The employees decided to end the agitation after receiving assurances from the Punjab government regarding their long-pending demands. As a result, the proposed march to the Chief Minister's residence (CM House) has also been cancelled. Union president Resham Singh said that the planned protest in Mohali on Tuesday was also called off. He explained that although an agreement had been reached during a meeting with the Transport Minister, the management had initially been reluctant to provide the agreed points in writing. However, following discussions with the administration, all mutually agreed demands were officially recorded in writing, paving the way for the withdrawal of the strike. Resham Singh further said that the next meeting with the Finance Minister, the Transport Minister, and officials from the Personnel Department is scheduled for August 14. Before that, on August 11, a proposal to frame rules for the regularisation of contractual employees will be placed before the Board of Directors for approval.
